10 — Frequently asked questions

Your questions,
our answers.

01What is the difference between a plastic shoe and a steel shoe?
A plastic shoe (or plastic horseshoe) is made of high-performance polyurethane, lighter and more flexible than steel. Its lightness reduces the effort required from the horse at every stride. It also absorbs shocks, reduces the vibrations transmitted to joints and tendons, and encourages the natural movement of the hoof.
02Are plastic shoes suitable for all horses?
In the vast majority of cases, the choice depends on the ground. Hard ground: Essentia and Athena-AF, with frog support. Soft ground: Alta and Athena, without frog support. For laminitis, navicular or abscesses, we offer standard therapeutic shoes, and for complex cases, custom-made therapeutic shoes. If in doubt, contact us: we support your farrier.
03How long does a plastic shoe last?
It depends on the model, the ground and the activity. On average, a shoe is fitted for 1 to 2 cycles of 5 to 6 weeks. Our hoof pads can be refitted up to 3 consecutive times.
04Can a shoe be combined with filling silicone?
Yes, it is even recommended in many cases, with a pad: the pad option on the shoe, or an added hoof pad. The pad closes the space and keeps the silicone in place. Three hardnesses: 18, 25 and 35 Sh-A.
05Standard or custom-made orthopaedic: what is the difference?
The standard therapeutic shoe addresses common pathologies with a predefined geometry, ready to fit. The custom-made shoe is designed for a given hoof after analysing the case: full shoe shape, wedge angle, asymmetry. We support more than 400 orthopaedic cases a year with farriers and vets.
06How do I get trade pricing?
Farriers: send your contact details and your SIRET number (French company number) to contact@lesabotfrancais.fr and we will open your trade account. The range is also available from our partner distributor France Industrie Maréchalerie (FIM).
07Are plastic shoes allowed in competition?
Yes, in the vast majority of disciplines. The Pulsa sport shoe was developed specifically for competition horses.
08How do I fit a glue-on shoe?
Careful trimming, a dry and clean sole, then gluing with a two-component adhesive (such as VETTEC Bovi-Bond) or a cyanoacrylate glue depending on the model. Our training courses help you get started.
09Do you deliver throughout France and internationally?
Yes, to mainland France and several European countries. For large-quantity orders, contact our customer service.
